Are youngsters "lying flat"? / Cinema Day

2024-04-11
On today's Backchat, we're talking about youngsters' uncertainty over their future.

A survey by Shue Yan University found 80% of secondary school students are unsure what path they want to follow in life.

The researchers also said 20% of the teenagers surveyed had a “lying flat” attitude of rejecting societal pressure and only doing the minimum necessary.

And they warned that youngsters who lack such a sense of self-identity generally perform more poorly when it comes to relationships and social skills.

So how should we interpret these findings? Is the much discussed “lying flat” attitude among many of the mainland’s young millennials spreading to Hong Kong? And is this a cause for concern?

After 9:45, we're talking about Cinema Day, which will return on April 21.
