National Security Law legislation

2020-05-26
On Tuesday's Backchat, latest developments on the National Security Law legislation on Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong Bar Association issued a statement on Monday, expressing its concern regarding the plans as it believes Beijing has no power under the Basic Law to insert the legislation into Annex III as intended.
Meanwhile, speaking at a meeting with senior media executives on Monday, former Chief Executive Tung Chee-hwa said the purpose of the National Security Law is to assure social stability in Hong Kong. The absence of Article 23 of the Basic Law has made Hong Kong a national security loophole for "opposition forces" to disrupt social order.
Will the National Security law bring stability or instability to Hong Kong?
