Asian athletes have become a force in the Asian sporting world that cannot be overlooked. China, Japan and South Korea have even become top global sports nations. The history of the Asian Games can witness the rise of Asian sports.
The Asian Games in 2014 marks the 100th anniversary of the 1st Asian Games. In the Far Eastern Championship Games, the precursor of the Asian Games, held in 1913, there were only three nations, namely China, Japan and the Philippines, participated in eight competition events. Today, there are more than 40 countries and regions competing in over 40 events.
Asian has changed over the last century, from the first host city, Manila, to this year’s hosting city, Incheon, the size and scale of the Asian Game have both increased. Hong Kong athletes represented China to participate in the earlier Asian Games, and have been striving for breakthroughs after the reunification. The ups and downs of the Asian Games can indeed reflect the changes in Asia.
