A new fundraising record of over $18.8 million was revealed on January 22 at the closing ceremony of "Operation Santa Claus 2012" at the Grand Hyatt hotel. The annual charity event is jointly organized by RTHK and SCMP, with money going to 18 beneficiaries this year.

Officiating guests including Wife of the Chief Executive, the Honorary Patron of the campaign Regina Leung, His Eminence Cardinal Joseph Zen Ze-Kiun, SDB, Director of Broadcasting Roy Tang, SCMP Chief Executive Officer Robin Hu, SCMP Managing Editor Brian Rhoads, Executive Assistant Manager, Food & Beverage of Grand Hyatt Hong Kong Hervé Mazella, Project Coordinator Ellen Yeung, together with representatives of beneficiaries, were invited to reveal the final figure step by step through placing numbers onto the backdrop. They disclosed a total raised of HK$18,780,236 – the best fundraising record in OSC history.
