Chinese-learning for non-Chinese speaking students
2020-09-17
On Thursday's Backchat, we'll be discussing Chinese-learning for non-Chinese speaking students.
There is a serious lack of teaching materials systematically designed for NCS students that cater to their varying needs, and all the problems that come with learning a written and spoken language, without a Chinese speaking family background.
A new project jointly run by Hong Kong University and Oxfam is aimed to help them to overcome the obstacles. Why is it important to learn Chinese?
What are the challenges faced by these students?
8:30-9:30 Shalini Mahtani, founder of Zubin Foundation
8:50-9:30 Wong Shek-hung, Acting Director of Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan Programme at Oxfam
Phyllis Cheung, Executive Director, Hong Kong Unison
9:00-9:30 Elizabeth Loh, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Education, University of Hong Kong
